Beautiful garden lighting, designed and installed by licensed electricians who love outdoor spaces. Light up your paths, trees and entertaining areas, then control it all from your phone, on a schedule or by voice.
Good garden lighting changes how you use your home. Paths and steps become safe after dark, trees and garden beds come alive, and the deck or courtyard becomes somewhere you actually want to sit at night.
The Electric Crew is a family-run team of licensed electricians based in Kew. We design and install garden and landscape lighting for homes across Melbourne’s inner east and north, and we automate it so it looks after itself: on at sunset, off when you go to bed, and controllable from your phone.

Tom and Rodney are real professionals. We needed to install new outdoor lighting and CCTV cameras, and they did an absolutely fantastic job with putting in over 25 new Hue Outdoor lights and set up a Unifi monitoring system using their new G6 turrets which have worked flawlessly. They were very responsive and we got the job booked in just a few days after my initial inquiry.

Lighting Designed Around Your Garden
The best garden lighting isn’t about more lights. It’s about putting the right light in the right place. Tom plans your lighting in layers:
- Feature lighting to uplight trees, hedges and sculptural plants
- Path and step lighting so everyone can move around safely at night
- Entertaining lighting for decks, courtyards and outdoor dining
- Entry and security lighting for driveways, front doors and side paths
We use warm, glare-free fittings that light the garden rather than your neighbours’ windows, in quality materials like solid copper and brass that age beautifully outdoors.
What We Install
Copper spike uplights
Solid copper spike lights to uplight trees, hedges and garden beds. They weather to a natural patina and blend into the planting.
Path and step lights
Low-level lights along paths, stairs and retaining walls, for safety and a soft glow after dark.
Festoon lighting
Festoon string lights over courtyards, pergolas and outdoor dining areas, installed properly on hardwired outdoor circuits.
Deck and LED strip lighting
Subtle lighting built into decks, steps, benches and pergolas to highlight the architecture of your outdoor space.
Pool and water features
Waterproof lighting for pools, ponds and water features that looks stunning at night and adds safety.
Entry and security lighting
Wall lights, floodlights and sensor lights for driveways, front doors and side paths, so arriving home after dark feels safe.

Garden Lighting That Switches Itself On
Because we also specialise in home automation, your garden lighting doesn’t need another switch to remember. We can set it up to:
- Turn on automatically at sunset, adjusting through the seasons
- Switch off at a set time, or when you say goodnight
- Light the driveway when the gate or garage opens after dark
- Create scenes, like “Entertaining” or “Pool”, with one tap
- Respond to your voice through Apple Home, Google or Alexa
We use Shelly smart modules and Philips Hue outdoor lighting, and we can often add automation to garden lights you already have, without digging anything up.

Working With Garden Designers and Landscape Architects
We regularly work alongside garden designers and landscape architects, and some of our best projects have come through those partnerships. We can install to your designer’s lighting plan, or help create one, and we coordinate with the landscaping so conduits and cabling go in before the planting does.
Landscaping a new garden? Get in touch early. It’s much easier (and neater) to plan lighting before the garden goes in than to add it afterwards.

Can you add automation to garden lights I already have?
Usually, yes. We can often fit a smart module to your existing garden lighting circuit, so your lights come on at sunset and can be controlled from your phone without digging anything up. Tom will check what you have during your free consultation.
Will installing new garden lights mean digging up my garden?
New lights need cabling, but we run it carefully through garden beds and under lawn edges and leave everything tidy. If you’re landscaping, the best time to plan lighting is before the planting goes in.
Do garden lights turn on automatically at sunset?
Yes. Our automated systems follow local sunset times, so your lights adjust through the seasons without you touching anything. You can also set them to switch off at a set time.
Should garden lighting be low voltage or 240V?
Most garden and landscape lighting runs on low voltage (12V), which is safer around gardens, pools and people. Some fittings, like floodlights and festoons, run on 240V and must be installed by a licensed electrician. We’ll recommend the right option for each area.
How many garden lights do I need?
It depends on the size of your garden and what you’d like to highlight. Many gardens start with 8 to 12 well-placed lights. Our starter package of 10 copper spike lights is a good first step, and you can add more later.
Do outdoor lights cope with Melbourne weather?
Yes. We use weather-rated fittings designed to handle rain, frost and summer heat, and quality materials like copper and brass that last outdoors for years.
