You’ve found the perfect pendant. We’ll make sure it hangs at the right height, is fixed securely and dims beautifully, over your island, dining table, stairwell or entry.

Pendant Lights, Installed Properly
A pendant is often the first thing people notice in a room, so it needs to be in exactly the right spot. Too high and it looks lost; too low and it blocks the view across the table. Heavy fittings need proper support, and cheap dimmers can make even an expensive light flicker.
The Electric Crew is a family-run team of licensed electricians based in Kew. We install pendant lights, chandeliers and feature lighting for homes across Melbourne’s inner east and north, whether you’ve already chosen your fittings or you’d like Tom’s advice before you buy.
Where We Install Pendant Lights
Kitchen islands and benches
A row of pendants spaced evenly along the island, centred on the bench and hung at a height that lights the work without blocking the view.
Dining tables
A single statement light or a cluster, centred on the table rather than the room, so it still looks right once the table is in place.
Stairwells and voids
Long-drop pendants and chandeliers in double-height spaces, positioned to look good from both upstairs and downstairs.
Entries and hallways
A feature light that makes a strong first impression, with the drop set so it clears the door and taller guests.
Bedrooms and living areas
Bedside pendants instead of lamps, and soft feature lighting for lounges and reading corners.
Shops and salons
Decorative pendants and chandeliers for retail and hospitality spaces, like the salon in our projects below.

The Details We Take Care Of
- The right height: we check the drop with you before anything is fixed in place
- Secure fixing: heavy pendants and chandeliers fixed to the ceiling structure, not just the plasterboard
- New light points: we can add or move a point so the light sits exactly over your island or table
- Dimming that works: matched dimmers and globes, with no flicker or buzzing
- Assembly: multi-part fittings and chandeliers put together carefully, and the packaging taken away
Bought your fittings online or from a lighting store? No problem. We’re happy to install lights you’ve chosen, and Tom can check that they’re suitable before you buy.
Make your pendants smart
As official Shelly installers, we can add smart control behind your existing switch. Your pendants can then dim from your phone, come on at sunset, switch to a “Dinner” scene with one tap, or respond to your voice through Apple Home, Google or Alexa, and the wall switch still works as normal.

Whole-Home Lighting Renovation, Hawthorn
A full lighting upgrade with premium LED fittings, plus wireless control of the indoor, garden and pool lighting on custom schedules. The project also included network upgrades and Sonos audio throughout.
Pendant Lighting FAQs
How high should a pendant hang over a kitchen island?
As a guide, the bottom of the pendant usually sits around 75 to 90cm above the benchtop. It depends on your ceiling height, the size of the fitting and how tall your household is, so we check the drop with you before fixing it in place.
How high should a pendant hang over a dining table?
Usually around 75 to 85cm above the table, so it lights the table without blocking the view across it. The pendant should be centred on the table rather than the room.
Can you install a pendant where there’s no light point?
Yes. We can add a new light point or move an existing one, so your pendants sit exactly over your island or table. Tom will check access to the ceiling during your consultation.
Can my ceiling hold a heavy chandelier?
Plasterboard alone can’t hold a heavy fitting. We fix heavy pendants and chandeliers to the ceiling structure, adding support where needed, so they’re safe for years to come.
Can pendant lights be dimmed?
Most can, as long as the globe or LED and the dimmer are compatible. Mismatched dimmers cause flickering and buzzing, so we make sure they work together.
Will you install lights I’ve bought myself?
Yes. Many clients buy their pendants from a lighting store or online, and we install them. Tom can also check a fitting before you buy, to make sure it suits your space and is approved for use in Australia.
★★★★★
The Electric Crew did a great job of installing an elaborate pendant light! The two workers were super friendly and lovely to communicate with, and had a tricky fixture up within an hour.
They cleaned up after themselves and everything, dream tradies! Highly recommend, will use them going forward.
