Location: Frankston, Mornington Peninsula
The brief: Quiet, steady airflow for a beach house living room and bedroom
What we installed: Two Haiku ceiling fans by Big Ass Fans
Rooms: Living room (raked ceiling) and bedroom

A Beach House That Makes the Most of the Sea Breeze
This beach house sits right on the shore of Frankston Beach. On a summer afternoon, the ocean breeze comes straight in, but it doesn’t reach every corner of the house, and the air can feel still at night with the windows closed.
The owners wanted something that felt like a natural part of the house: a steady, gentle airflow that complements the breeze, rather than a noisy fan or air conditioning running all summer.

Why We Chose Haiku Fans
We installed a Haiku ceiling fan from Big Ass Fans in both the living room and the bedroom. Haiku fans are beautifully made and very quiet, so they suit a bedroom as well as a living space, and their sleek, low-profile blades look like a design feature rather than an appliance.
In the living room, the fan is mounted on a downrod from the raked ceiling, so it sits at the right height to move air through the whole room, not just around the ceiling.

Steady Airflow, Room by Room
With a fan in each room, the owners can keep the living area comfortable during the day and sleep cool at night, without closing the house up and running air conditioning.
Ceiling fans also use a fraction of the power of air conditioning, which makes them ideal for a holiday house that’s used more in summer.
Thinking about ceiling fans for your home? We’ll help you choose the right size and mounting for each room, and check that the ceiling and wiring can support it.
